Interfaces

OBSERVER is a highly automated and fully connected system with numerous outbound and inbound interfaces that eliminate a substantial amount of manual data entry using HL7 or DICOM communications. Vision Chips has extensive experience with EMRs from Epic, Meditech, Cerner, NextGen, eClinicalWorks, McKesson, Allscripts, GE, and other major EMR vendors.

EMR Interfaces: Inbound ADT, Orders, or DICOM Modality Worklist interfaces automate the process of adding patient demographic information and exam record creation. Outbound HL7 Results interfaces send a copy of the electronically signed report back to the hospital EMR. Outbound interfaces may be in standard HL7 text format or in PDF format to replicate the look and feel of the native OBSERVER report.

Ultrasound Interfaces: Inbound DICOM images from the ultrasound machines are automatically attached to the exam record. A separate inbound interface handles fetal biometry and other exam related measurements that are received via DICOM Structured Reports, Other Network Communications, or by a Serial Cable Interface. The exam record is automatically updated with the ultrasound measurements. An outbound DICOM Modality Worklist interface populates the ultrasound machine’s worklist and eliminates manual data entry of demographics on the ultrasound machine.

The Workflow: In a typical environment, patient demographics would be received from the hospital EMR automatically populating the OBSERVER system while creating a new exam record. OBSERVER would then send the worklist to the ultrasound machine prior to the start of the ultrasound exam. The program constantly receives images during the ultrasound exam, making them available for viewing at any of our imaging stations. Upon completion of the exam, the measurements are transferred and automatically populate both maternal and fetal values in the exam record. Once the sonographer and physician complete the exam and the physician electronically signs it, a copy of the report is automatically sent back to the EMR.
